wallpaper & sewing silliness.

I can now officially wallpaper things! My friend Sophie helped me redo the wallpaper I had installed in the Warehouse Care back in April (which you can see here), only then it was only stuck on temporarily and I messed it up slightly so the pattern didn't quite connect. But now it's properly permanently installed, we even managed a corner and a switch, I'm really happy with the result! We even made a silly video and had a blast. Can't believe she's going back to France, noo!
Have a peek:

Other than that, I've been sewing little pouches from my hand screen printed fabrics! A bit unfortunate that I shipped off my sewing machine back to Prague last year, great timing. Now I have to annoy my poor friend Fika- she has a domestic one in her room, it's much easier to use than the industrial ones we have at uni! Plus it's a bit intimidating in the midst of all the super experienced fashion students who look at you weird when you don't know how to put the bobbin in. Sawwry gawwd! A few months ago I didn't even know what a bobbin was so I'm quite happy with myself.
So it's fun times in Fika's room with Friends intead. Not too shabby! I've managed to hurt my finger already AND break her needle but she's still putting up with me!
You can check out her products and designs here, they're really great.

If you have any suggestions for pattern combinations or anything else you'd like to see me make, do share them! Bed time now. Oh! I've also upgraded my logo but I will share that with you next time!

Stinky Wee wallpaper

Happy April everyone! I hope you've been enjoying the slightly nicer weather wherever you are. Apart from the much anticipated lighter evenings, for me April also means that my exhibition at the lovely Warehouse Cafe in Birmingham has finally opened! It involved some slightly stressful preparation, which meant getting frames and naturally breaking them afterwards but it was so worth it.
It really pushed me to do lots of work and now I have the experience of organizing my own show, which is something nobody can take away from me. I also made little products like cards, envelopes, sketchbooks, aprons and woolen pouches to sell on the side so we'll see how they do. Here's a few snapshots so you can get an idea - apparently asparagus together with mushrooms is a hit, who knew!

I wallpapered one part of a wall with my asparagus design as you can see below and the lovely staff want to commission me to install it permanently and extend it to the corners too (right now it's not aligning properly so the plant's helping a bit. Or is it?). They also asked me to make a matching lampshade, which is amazing news. I just have to learn how to make lampshades so if anyone has any tips, don't be shy to share them! One of the guys who works in the building saw the wallpaper and said: "Can I name it? It should be called stinky wee." So here's your Stinky Wee limited edition wallpaper:

These are my big cabbage linocuts, or as some say brains, extraterrestrial space or a path. Also I've heard that my blueberries look like monkeys in coconuts, don't know what could top that. Below are sunflower seeds, I guess they don't resemble many other things, luckily.

Here is an example of some of the amazing food they serve at the Cafe, this was a bulgur salad with grilled halloumi with halloumi 'fish and chips' in the background. So glad I have excuse to go eat there more often now! So if you're ever in Birmingham, make sure to pay them a visit.

annanemone - square one.

I've got a week until I have to set up the exhibition at the Warehouse Cafe. It's been a bit manic planning it but really good practice- deciding which work to pick, how to hang it, how to promote yourself..
Last week I made some A2 lino prints (which I can't wait to share, they're preetty psychedelic) and it was really nice going back among more fine art-y people as opposed to fashion all the time. It feels really good to work with your hands the whole day and then come home and feel like you've actually accomplished something.

On another note, I finally made a Facebook page for my brand annanemone! So like it and spread the word, I promise not to spam your news feed too much. Thanks so much for the support!

Yesterday my lovely housemates Louise and Sophie (who have been featured here before!) were my models. Also Louise promised to be one for our MA fashion show in June, I'm really excited! Now that it's on here you can't back out Louise. Ha!
I photoshoped my patterns on their clothes to see what they would look like, which will be helpful with deciding which prints to choose for the fashion show. Which ones do you like/would like to see more of?

vegetarian exhibition

One day I was walking to uni through Digbeth, the more hip part of Birmingham. I actually really like it for its old brick houses and bridges and just the overall industrial feel, it's very photogenic. I'll take some pictures soon and help you get an idea of what I mean. Allison Street is now my favourite (it's also the name of one of my very dear friends), as I've discovered the amazing Vintage Clothing with some great bargains as well as The Warehouse Cafe.

Sophie's veggie burger topped with brie&cranberry - mmmm.

I'm so happy I found this vegetarian restaurant because a few great things have happened since I have. We went there with my housemates and the food.. OH THE FOOD. I had the banana burger (a vegetarian burger topped with fresh banana, chilli peppers and home made peanut butter?! YUM.) and all my friends were preeetty happy too. Not to mention the squealing when we got our vegan brownie with ice-cream. Why we shared I don't know, biggest mistake ever. But we will be back there a lot because...

They will exhibit my work there throughout the whole of April! The staff were so nice and were happy to have a look at it and tadaa, here we go. I'm so excited, it seems like the perfect place to show my nature-related work.
I showed them my centipede and bug designs but apparently that might cause controversy among the vegetarian customers so fair enough. Haha I loved that remark. It looks like I'm going to wallpaper one corner of the restaurant with asparagus, hopefully I'll get no haters about that.
I'm also going to work on some more designs for this occasion so get ready for some more linocuts, those seemed quite popular. Get ready hands, you will probably get cut at times.

Any ideas for other weird vegetables I could draw?
